Cleanup of Michigan's Flint River this year has yielded some interesting finds. An Oregon man could be spending the next six months in jail after he allegedly left jury duty earlier this month. Grant Faber will appear in court later today to face contempt of court charges after his May 7th arrest. Hillsboro Police say Faber told them he left the Marion County court after lunch because he was "extremely bored" and "just couldn't take it." The judge who issued the warrant tells "The Oregonian" all penalties could be waived against Faber if he agrees to serve the jury duty.
Several UFO sightings from Scottsdale to Sedona, Arizona, had skeptics and believers alike keeping an eye on the sky Monday afternoon. The object was described as clear, spherical and stationary by various witnesses. The object was identified later Monday night to be a helium research balloon owned by the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility out of Texas.
The "Miss Pole Dance Utah" competition took place this past Saturday despite the racy controversy surrounding it. It was billed as the state's first ever fitness pole dancing completion and the website promoting it had a note about "fetish." Some called it too sexy in nature and Davis Commissioner Bret Milburn almost pulled the plug on it over concern it might violate county rules. However, organizers said there were strict rules in place about athleticism and pointed out it was not stripping. They also say the vertical pole is not just another sex industry prop but can also be used for physical fitness.
There's a seafood theft being investigated in New York state. Police in Palatine say Felica Tulej and Heather Rimmer are accused of stealing 90 pounds of scallops and shrimp along with other items from a grocery store. The two are facing charges that include grand larceny and attempted petit larceny. The thousand-dollars worth of stolen goods were taken three months ago and Rimmer had already been arrested. Tulej was just recently taken into custody.
A new pizza record is in the books. A one-thousand-777 foot pizza pie was created outside of a Fort Pierce, Florida pizza place over the weekend as part of a block party coordinated by the St. Lucie County Education Foundation and the Van Duzer foundation. The 12-inch-wide treat covered several blocks and worked its way around the neighborhood. It was baked by Big Apple Pizza and Pasta blew past the previous title-holder by more than 200 feet.
The previous "Hokey Pokey" world record still stands after a failed attempt last weekend to break it. Several thousand people in Council Bluffs, Iowa, gathered to set a new "Guinness" World Record for "Hokey Pokey" dancing on Saturday as part of the city's annual "Celebrate Council Bluffs" parade. However, they fell short with organizers saying more than four-thousand-dancers were needed to set the new record.
Utah's "Diaper Boy" is in trouble again. "Diaper Boy" is a 31-year-old suspect accused of yanking his pants down in front of kids to show he's wearing a diaper. He's been in trouble before but charges were dismissed when a judge ruled that showing a diaper didn't justify an actual crime. The man is now back behind bars again in Salt Lake County with the county attorney looking into more possible charges. He's been in trouble for "diaper related offenses" a dozen times.
